“Self Portrait”
This self referential work combines elements of my past and present : in the guise of these classic #adidas #zxtorsion I remember having when I was a kid – I love the retro futuristic look of these trainers and the #80saesthetic colours resonate with me so much in nostalgia and my own aesthetic appreciation – to cartoons I watched as a kid and my obsession with grids and #futuristic concepts. The brushes are a symbol of my life as an #Artist and the series of three books too – one being after #modernart 1945 – 2000 – and the departure from the post-modernity – Post modern concepts which have greatly influenced my practice. The second book is by #philosopher Roberto Manzocco #transhumanism engineering the human condition – I have had the pleasure of joining him on a panel at the #posthuman forum in #nyc back in #2015 and we have kept in contact ever since – his book is incredible read it – the final third book is an #Artist book on anatomy and my fascination of manipulating it into my #cyborgs and other speculative lifeforms in my practice. Thirdly the #Russian #matroyshka #dolls is another important part in my work the link to my Continous line technique that I use to construct my pieces these dolls in sculptural form embodied the line and the evolution of the flesh – they hold a strong #symbolic idea for me – I call them the Cyborg Geneology – they represent new structures of hyper intelligences of monolithic metaphor – which I will be exploring in #oilpainting soon..
